How is the time period of a play important to the story? ?

The time period is important because it puts the characters or plot in perspective, like in Twelfth Night. Viola pretended to be her brother because it wasn't safe for a woman to be by herself in that time. There's also the social themes, like in the Crucible. That huge killing spree happened because they where a bunch of zealots that where against witchcraft.
