Earnest money, our realtor cashed the check. Can he do that?

Okay well we are in the middle of buying a house. My husband was transferred so the sellers gave us 30 days to provide paychecks and to get approved which will be April 30th. Today we checked our bank account and our realtor has cashed the check today and its the 23rd of april. Can he do that and why would he?
